Arctic Fox hair colors

Heyy!

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a looong time, but I wanted to be sure about the end result and usage before I announce anything rushed.
#nomakeup #dontgetscared #naturalface You got your warning!

I’M IN LOVE! As you may remember my earlier post from April, I’ve been blue (he-he) ever since. I found this new color brand from Instagram, and I wanted to give it a try, and for once I found something that seller ships worldwide and I can get my hands on!

Arctic Fox Hair color.
“Founded in 2014 by model and animal lover Kristen Leanne, Arctic Fox is one of the fastest growing hair color lines in the world.  Kristen has had a long love affair with bright, vivid hair colors. But like many, she struggled with the shortcomings of available brands.  After bonding with her partners over a shared passion for color, self expression, red wine and of course animals, they set out to create the best semi-permanent colors available today.”
They also use 15% of their profits to help prevent animal abuse, and are 100% cruelty free and vegan.

And they are not shibleebing with this. My earlier color faded within few washes, even if I mixed Igora with my conditioner, it wasn’t bright enough. Oh, why am I explaining, when I have the pictures to show you!

This is what we started out with, my hair actually looks brighter here than what it actually was, all faded out with blond sections and very pale blue.

dsc_3113dsc_3114

I ordered two bottles to start with, Purple Rain and Poseidon, thinking that I will restore my earlier two-tone hair color, but I saw one video of mixing these two colors together and I loved the result so that I wanted to try it myself.

I called out to a friend of mine, S, who came to help me with dyeing. We mixed approximately 2/3 of Poseidon and 1/3 of Puple Rain.

DSC_3126.jpg

It takes a bit less than the 8 oz bottle to dye all my hair.

dsc_3142

I let it sit for 45 minutes (conditioner based, semi-permanent colors don’t burn your head or hair, I sometimes leave it on for an hour!) and wash it off with shampoo. That minimizes the leaking which some hair dyes do.

dsc_3147dsc_3150

End result is to dye for! Perrfect shade of bluple. It did not leak on my neck or clothes or pillow, like all the others I’ve tried before.
After this first expriment, I didn’t do any touch ups or color fixing for a week, and it was the beginning of summer so I showered every other day, and here is what happened next.

dsc_3227dsc_3229

You can see some worn off chunks, and the color is lighter, but all and all the shade is still the same. As it’s described in AF website:
“All semi-permanent colors will fade, but not all fade equally.  Arctic Fox is formulated to fade within the original color spectrum, so as the color fades the shades will continue to be the gorgeous tones that your clients wanted.”
Count me in, I’m hooked! I would love to order one bottle each and take them to my hair stylist and see what she comes up with. She has tried af-colors for me once, as you might have seen in my Instagram, and fancied them.
And touch up is simple! Just a few drops of color mixed to your regular conditioner does the trick, these are super pigmented!

Color change is also fairly simple, for darker at least. My hair is bleached underneath, but we didn’t bleach it this time, and usually I just let the color removal sit on my roots for 15 min and wash it off, after that my hair is ready for semi-permanent colors.
I’m blond, my hair is straight, sleek and healthy, very glass-like, so I don’t need to bleach my hair for the shade, just for the texture.

We were invited to my friends graduation party, and I wanted something different for that, I let the color fade for a week, added more Purple Rain than Poseidon and ta-dah, here it is!

dsc_3247

You can see this color in direct sunlight in my Ig-profile, there it seems to be a lot more purple.

All and all, I recommend Arctic Fox to all who use bright colors and love to try different shades! You can find the diluter (Arctic Mist) to mix up some sweet pastels, or mix the colors like I did, possibilities are infinite!
Second positive thing is the price. These bottles are as expensive as many other brands, $13,99, but the thing is, you get 8 0z. of product, where many others have 4 oz. You an choose the 4 oz. bottle for $7,99, but where’s the fun in that?
Third, the smell. When you get the package and open it up, the one thing that you’ll notice is the scent. It’s not too strong, and it is delicious, grapes of bubblegum or something sweet like that! I love it! I had to dye my mums hair with a regular permanent hair dye, and I already forgot how bad they smell now that I’m used to use Arctic Fox, ha.

We have ordered a couple times after this as a group, and I’ve turned few of my friends to regular af-users too! I recieved the shipping info for the last order yesterday, and this time I ordered something different, with the “blurple” combination. Well see!

Oh, and everytime you order, you’ll get points to get discounts! And inviting friends can get you points also, so here is my INVITE.
By using this link, you’ll earn me 25 points each, so if you’re interested and want to join Arctic Fox, please do me this favor! After you’ve joined, you can invite your friends and followers with your own link and get the same 25 points per person!

Life’s too short to have a boring hair!

Happy Halloween !

A friend of mine fixed their annual Halloween-party on Saturday, I participate when I’m not working and this year I was off.

So, on a short notice, what to wear? I watched a thousand YouTube video-tutorials, Googled pictures and ideas and this is what I came up with. YouTube granted me with Alex Faction Voodoo priest-tutorial and I was keen to try it!

Emppi took some pictures, these first two are from her 🙂

I started with Kicks moisturizing primer and topped it with Clinique Redness solution primer. First I lined the skull with white liner amd filled it in with Grimas water activated face paint in white.

Errmm. This one I sent to a friend, but what the doodle, I show it to you too.

I lined the skull with Grimas kohl-liner in gray and smudged it out with some dark brown/taupe eyeshadow. I also lined my eye-area and nose. When I was happy with my blending, I darkened up the line with some black pencil liner.

I also added some shading to the skull with pencil liners, brown eyeshadow and my contouring palette.

To my chin area I used my regular products, Clinique Redness solutions foundation and W7 contour palette.

To my eyes, I used NYX Liquid Gold and my lid and Benefit Quick, Look busy on my crease, I also lightened my browbone with a nude shadow from Kryolan. I did my brows on my regular way, just darkened them up a little.

Lips I lined with black pencil and used some metallic green Kryolan cream eyeshadow (I just love sample jars woth no names..) on the middle part.Finished off everything with Mehron Setting powder in translucent.

Kimmo’s costume is a whole another story, that man loves Halloween more than I do!

I’m so sorry about the awful lightning , but I can’t fit myself in a light box.  Here’s my whole outfit, little voodoo-doll and everything! I teased my hair and wore my HRC-hat with it. Knee-high socks, two petticoats and a black shirt, few necklaces and a bracelet, I’m happy how this turned out, in less than a week.

My hubbys fave is made with Grimas face paints in white and black. He wore a top hat, which is missing in the picture .

Have a horrific Halloween!

Finland vs. Canada

Today’s the day! Ice hockey world championship final! Finland made it to final and is going  head to head with Canada.

Final game starts at 20.45 (GMT+2) and we’re cheering for Finland naturally.
A bar or a pub, game-shirts, anything white and blue are included in look of the day, so are my nails!

Captain calling, a goal, Finnish flag and some glitter and gold, those are my recipe to victory. Here you go:

DSC_3103

I started out with Essie Blanc, which is base to all my nails. Then I did a gradient with Blanc and Colors by Llarowe Independence Day (how convenient) to all but ring fingers.
Ring fingers got a cross painted on with Kick Sugar Lacquer Majorelle Garden.

Pinky got a frosting with KbShimer Dust in the Bottle.
I stamped the net on middle finger from BundleMonster BM-209. Black stamping polish is Mundo de Uñas Black and red edges are painted on with Essie Dress to Kilt.
C for captain is from NailzCraze NC05, also with MdU Black
“Keep calm and Hammertime” is stamped with MdU Gold from MoYou London Rebel 05.

I’m really happy how these turned out, I also matched my make up to these 🙂

Neon green for sail

Hello dearies! Long time not seen my nails (mwah mwah.)
So yes! Finally I have something to look at on my nails! Wohoo!

Finally, spring is here (it is, what do you mean it still rains and/or snows? Shush!) and it’s time to take out the pastels and NEONS! I love neon colors on my nails and my make up!

03

This time I started out with Essie Blanc and coated it with KbShimmer For Sail By Owner. So briiight it hurts my eyes. Lovely, loooovely neon green!

I didn’t have the time nor the interest to do anything that takes too much time (it was 4am), so once again, stamp stamp stamp.

02

For stamping I used MdU Black and Fauxnad plate QA8.

05

Okay, my nails are not that even, but better than before. I broke both my middle finger nails, left index and almost my thumb. Yay.

06

Then i went through my “box of pretty nail decorating thingies” and found my black square studs. Attached them with clear polish and coated everything with Essie Gel Setter.

01

I just wanted to share all these pictures with you, but I got nothing more to say, so it’s once sentence here, another there. LOOK AT MY PRETTIEH NAILS!

Aaand finally the stuff I used.

Yay!

Visiting my hairstylist

This visit I did actually over a month ago, and now my hair is all blue but don’t let it bother you right now!

My hairdresser is The Best Lady in the world, she never lets me down when talking about hair! We have all had those bad hair days, even when walking out from the salon, so a great hairstylist for a lady is worth more than his/her weight in gold. You so know what I’m talking about.

I’ve had it all, brown, red, violet, dark lilac, more red, fake drealocks, short, long, short on the side, and my own hair color is blond like a straw. I went with my natural color for few years, after many many years of dying, just with a little twist.
I had a rainbow in the mid-layer, pink ends, green and blue, pink and purple and who remembers what color on the side. Last summer my stylist colored my hair pale pink, and last autumn she colored my hair gray with a purple front, and I loved it. After it wore out, I still had most of my head in my natural color until mid March.

I went in on the morning, too early, so I’m not wearing any makeup in the pictures, sorry 😀 And all photos I took with my Samsung GS4 , some with the front camera, so the quality is what it is.

This is what we started with, my natural hair with worn off red lenghts.

20160318_095420

At first she used the color removal on lengths, and second time for all the hair. My head dealt great with the blonding, no burns and no dried up hair.

20160318_121654

No, I’m really not that bald 😀

20160318_122810

Then she went in with the blue, this was the moment I wasn’t so sure about the color choice anymore. Blue color is a direct dye from Schwarzkopf, Igora ColorWorx (Concentrate Blue.)

20160318_123810

20160318_123819

And lavender on my lengths. She mixed multiple coloring products for this, and I still have no idea what. I don’t think that she has either 😀

20160318_130403

End result was to die for! But one shiiiizkebab to keep it up, I only bought the blue color. Like I told you in the beginning, my hair is almost all blue at the moment, just a bit paler on the ends. But I still love it, and I think that this is the color is a keeper.

20160318_134844

Parturi-Kampaamo Roc can be found in Kemi, Finland, and Jenni is one hair-magician! I love her innovative style and she’s always ready even for the craziest ideas. As am I!

You can’t polish short nails?

I often hear from people I meet, that you can’t polish and decorate short nails, because there is no room and it doesn’t look pretty.
“Don’t look at my nails, they’re ugly!” or “Could you do me a manicure when my nails are longer?” are the most common things I hear.

No. I don’t care how your nails look, I don’t notice them unless you specifically show them to me. I know that everyone don’t have the time, chance or interest to spend 12 hours a week doing their nails, as I do.

And yes, I can do a mani for you then, but I could also do it now. Short nails are not “un-polishable”! Let me show you!

I have a friend who just cut her nails short, and has psoriasis, so her cuticles can be extremely dry from time to time. Today she had some worn off dark polish on her nails, so the change is more radical.

Here’s where we started from. Grown, dry cuticles, worn off polish and cut (not filed!) nails:

before

At first we showed some acetone to her nails.

before3before2

I started with soaking her fingers in warm water, so that cuticles would soften up. Then I went around with Nfu’Oh Cuticle remover and a silicone pusher, cuticle cutters, filed free edges and buffed the surface. If you can’t wear polish because of your work etc., this is enough! Fixing your cuticles can make your nails look longer even without polish. So they look finished and cared of. Before filing and buffing, make sure that your nails are dry.

equip1between2between

Then we got to the polish part. Essie First base is my go to base, for color we chose a pretty nude polish this time. Essie Sand Tropez got a layer of KbShimmer Owl Miss You on top. KbS OMY is sooo pretty, sand-like nude with little golden flakes in it. I bought this second hand from Eve’s Temptations.

equip3after2

Swirly stamp is from BundleMonster plate BM-607 and MdU Black. I topped the whole thing with Essie Good To Go. Some cleaning on the edges and we’re done. Pretty, decorated, short nails!

Stampers and Decal mat

This started out as a stamper comparison-post, which it still is, but I realized something else while working with my Messy Mansion mat.
So, is my go-to stamper the best for me of do I have a better one in store?

These are my stampers:

DSC_1909.jpg

DSC_1910

Row behind we have a random square stamper (this MAY be from MoYou London, I’m not sure), pink squishy one from Pueen, legit Clear Jelly Stamper-head in Dashica’s holder, a regular marshmallow from Cesars Shop. In front there are medium firm (blue set) and medium soft (brown set) from Messy Mansion and last, but not least, legit Creative Shop Jumbo marshmallow stamper.

DSC_1912

My scraper is from Creative Shop too, and for this test I used Mundo de Uñas stamping polishes Black, White and Red and MoYou London Pro Collection XL – 15. I also clean my stampers always with a tape roller, never with acetone. My technique is that I press the stamper firmly on the plate, and straight on to my nail. No rolling, except with the CJS.

CreativeShop

  1. First we have the Creative Shop (CS) stamper. My Black stamping polish was running out, so that’s why I decided to take the Red along.
CS easily widens the stamp, being too soft and squishy to my use, but it still leaves a decent stamp.
It’s a bit too big and clumsy to be the number one for me, but I need to try the image shrinking -technique with this one, when I have the time!

MessyY2.jpg

2. With the first Messy Mansion medium soft stamper I don’t know what I did wrong. It seems soft but still firm enough for me, but I couldn’t get a sharp stamping result with it. Too sticky maybe, and needs another technique than mine.

CJS

3. Third one was the Clear Jelly Stamper (CJS). I’ve been fighting with this #%@$&! thing from hell since I bought it. It didn’t work for me at all. When I was doing this tryout, I had a moment of enlightenment with the technique (rolling, as I mentioned above) and these turned out quite well I think!
I still don’t fancy this stamper, it’s too firm to be used with big images, and it smudges out the smaller ones, maybe MdU polished don’t dry fast enough, but it’s still a big no for me.

MessyDB

4. Messy Mansion’s first medium firm is the dark blue one. This one was also okay, but not too good for me. It worked out well with the mat, but is too firm to me to use on my nails. Maybe some smaller images, but not the “whole nail” ones. Not too picky, but also not too sharp with details either.

Löllö

5. The marshmallow stamper from Cesars is my go-to stamper at the moment. Even couple little dent in the surface don’t make a difference on its results. I like how it picks up every little detail on the image, maybe even too well if you’re not careful enough with the scraping (as you can see on the picture.) This was my fist decent stamper, and has had it’s share of acetone, so maybe that makes it so soft.
Affordable, holder makes handling very easy and you can get this stamper from all around the world. Me likey!

MessyB

6. Messy Mansion’s other medium soft, dark brown one, if very similar to the Cesars one. Sticky but still firm enough, picks up the image very easy, and one more plus is that all the stamping colors are visible on this, even black. Definitely worth buying! And also MM’s stampers are affordable!

PueenPink

7. Next one is Pueens pink marshmallow stamper. It’s also quite similar to Cesars’ one, but smaller. And I think it’s a bit firmer too, at least it doesn’t work as well for me, as I hope you can see from the pictures. And if I want to stamp big images, this is too small for my nails on their normal length.

MessyLB

8. Then we have another Messy Mansion medium firm, the light blue. This actually worked better for me than the dark one, but is also a bit too firm on my nails. Maybe with some smaller images, or with simpler design, but nothing too detailed. Maybe with decals?

MoY

9. The square one is not for me, not at all. Even if the red stamp looks good, it was only the third one that I approved on this test. Something in this makes me not like it, I don’t know if it’s the shape of the texture, it’s also on the firm side, and I can’t space this right on my nail, while I’m used to the round ones. If your nails are flat and it’s easier for you to perceive the square shape, this one’s for you!

Then the thing I realized. I was meant to use all stampers with white polish, and I was horrified how no stamper can pick up and stamp with white polish! Until I got to the Cesars one, I’ve used it like a million times with white polish, and even this one didn’t work out too well. Let me show you.

whites

  1. Creative Shop
  2. MM medium soft Yellow
  3. Clear Jelly Stamper
  4. MM medium firm Dark blue
  5. Cesars Shop marshmallow
  6. MM medium soft Brown
  7. Pueen wannabe marshmallow
  8. MM medium firm Light blue
  9. Square

Soon after I did my test, there were a discussion on Facebook with other nail enthusiast and bloggers, that which decal mat is the best, and soon we realised that not all stampers, nor all polishes work with all mats. Well sh*t. You just have to find your own combination that works out the best.

But the result with my go-to stamper is that maybe the white marshmallow isn’t the best, and I need to use my stampers on wider range more often. I think I’m going to sell CJS, square and Pueen one, they just don’t do it for me.
After this I have been using the brown MM stamper as my number one, and I bought a new clear stamper from Cosette, which is a bit softer than CJS and works better for me, at least what I have tried it.

I don’t know if you have any use for this post, but it sure did the thing for me! And I broke my nails AGAIN (could this winter be over soon, like, really soon?) so I needed something to post about 😀
