You can’t polish short nails?

I often hear from people I meet, that you can’t polish and decorate short nails, because there is no room and it doesn’t look pretty.
“Don’t look at my nails, they’re ugly!” or “Could you do me a manicure when my nails are longer?” are the most common things I hear.

No. I don’t care how your nails look, I don’t notice them unless you specifically show them to me. I know that everyone don’t have the time, chance or interest to spend 12 hours a week doing their nails, as I do.

And yes, I can do a mani for you then, but I could also do it now. Short nails are not “un-polishable”! Let me show you!

I have a friend who just cut her nails short, and has psoriasis, so her cuticles can be extremely dry from time to time. Today she had some worn off dark polish on her nails, so the change is more radical.

Here’s where we started from. Grown, dry cuticles, worn off polish and cut (not filed!) nails:

At first we showed some acetone to her nails.

I started with soaking her fingers in warm water, so that cuticles would soften up. Then I went around with Nfu’Oh Cuticle remover and a silicone pusher, cuticle cutters, filed free edges and buffed the surface. If you can’t wear polish because of your work etc., this is enough! Fixing your cuticles can make your nails look longer even without polish. So they look finished and cared of. Before filing and buffing, make sure that your nails are dry.

Then we got to the polish part. Essie First base is my go to base, for color we chose a pretty nude polish this time. Essie Sand Tropez got a layer of KbShimmer Owl Miss You on top. KbS OMY is sooo pretty, sand-like nude with little golden flakes in it. I bought this second hand from Eve’s Temptations.

Swirly stamp is from BundleMonster plate BM-607 and MdU Black. I topped the whole thing with Essie Good To Go. Some cleaning on the edges and we’re done. Pretty, decorated, short nails!

All links and info are attached just to help you find some great stuff, I have bought all the products with my own money and my opinion is honest. C’mon, I have no sponsors yet!

Nude chicks.

I’m going to regret that headline in a few days, when checking out the sources leading to my blog. And I know there are going to be few disappointed guys on the other end of the internet, ha!

I felt like something semi-nude, because I managed to break down three out of five nails from my right hand. Yay. But nude, white, tasteless, scentless.. You know the drill, didn’t feel like that this time.

Base is Essie Ballet Slippers, which I decided to decorate with Mundo de Uñas Reddish.
Had a bit of a trouble deciding what image to use, but I ended with birds from Born Pretty Store BP-71.

After that my nails still looked a bit boring and Christmas-sy, so what next? Another round through my plates and I liked the big birds from Born Pretty Store BP-75.
Both birds to go with few misplaced feathers, stamped in MdU Black and ta-dah!

Usually less is more, but sometimes more is better. I actually like these, reminds me of lingonberries, birds and autumn. Nude base calms the restless overall, and black silhouettes stand out from the busy background.

I need to remember that base image on Christmas.
