You can’t polish short nails?

I often hear from people I meet, that you can’t polish and decorate short nails, because there is no room and it doesn’t look pretty.
“Don’t look at my nails, they’re ugly!” or “Could you do me a manicure when my nails are longer?” are the most common things I hear.

No. I don’t care how your nails look, I don’t notice them unless you specifically show them to me. I know that everyone don’t have the time, chance or interest to spend 12 hours a week doing their nails, as I do.

And yes, I can do a mani for you then, but I could also do it now. Short nails are not “un-polishable”! Let me show you!

I have a friend who just cut her nails short, and has psoriasis, so her cuticles can be extremely dry from time to time. Today she had some worn off dark polish on her nails, so the change is more radical.

Here’s where we started from. Grown, dry cuticles, worn off polish and cut (not filed!) nails:

At first we showed some acetone to her nails.

I started with soaking her fingers in warm water, so that cuticles would soften up. Then I went around with Nfu’Oh Cuticle remover and a silicone pusher, cuticle cutters, filed free edges and buffed the surface. If you can’t wear polish because of your work etc., this is enough! Fixing your cuticles can make your nails look longer even without polish. So they look finished and cared of. Before filing and buffing, make sure that your nails are dry.

Then we got to the polish part. Essie First base is my go to base, for color we chose a pretty nude polish this time. Essie Sand Tropez got a layer of KbShimmer Owl Miss You on top. KbS OMY is sooo pretty, sand-like nude with little golden flakes in it. I bought this second hand from Eve’s Temptations.

Swirly stamp is from BundleMonster plate BM-607 and MdU Black. I topped the whole thing with Essie Good To Go. Some cleaning on the edges and we’re done. Pretty, decorated, short nails!
